সম্প্রতি ঝাড়খণ্ডের কৃষিমন্ত্রী বাদল পাত্রলেখ সংবাদ মাধ্যমকে জানান, পর্যটকদের আকৃষ্ট করতে পাখি ও প্রাণীর জীবাশ্মের আকারে থাকা দুমকা জেলার বারমাসিয়া গ্রামের একটি বিশাল শিলা রক্ষার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় পদক্ষেপ করা হবে। কাঠবিড়ালি, হরিণের খুর, মাছ, আদিম মানুষ-সহ এমন অনেক প্রাণী ও পাখির জীবাশ্ম আকারে থাকা এই শিলাটি ইতিমধ্যেই পর্যটন বিভাগের নজরে আনা হয়েছে। মন্ত্রী বলেন, জীবাশ্ম শিলা সভ্যতার বিকাশের রহস্য উদ্ঘাটনে সাহায্য করবে। ফলে ওই শিলা রক্ষা করা এবং সেখানে একটি পার্ক নির্মাণের জন্য পর্যটন বিভাগকে চিঠি দেওয়া হচ্ছে। তাঁর দাবি, এই জীবাশ্ম শিলা রক্ষা ও সংরক্ষণ এবং এলাকার উন্নয়নের জন্য বদ্ধপরিকর তিনি।
প্রসঙ্গত, দুমকার একজন লেখক পণ্ডিত অনুপ কুমার বাজপেয়ী এক দশক আগে জীবাশ্ম শিলা নিয়ে গবেষণা করেন। এমন শিলা আবিষ্কারও করেন। দুমকা জেলার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ধর্মীয়, সাংস্কৃতিক ও প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক স্থানের ঝলক শিরোনামে গবেষণামূলক কাজের উপর একটি বইও লিখেছেন তিনি। গত ৩ অক্টোবর ওই বই প্রকাশিত হয়। অন্যদিকে, জনকপুর ফসিল রক-সহ জেলার অনেক পর্যটন স্পটকে পর্যটন স্পট হিসাবে চিহ্নিত করেছে দুমকা জেলা প্রশাসন। একটি চিঠিতে পর্যটন দফতরকে সে বিষয়ে জানিয়েছে।
